9/05/2009

Hope this may be of interest to you, May 9th, will be 100 years since the first car went to Dargo.

The Gippsland Vehicle Collection is helping celebrate this with a run of vehicles to Dargo on the Saturday.

It has grown into a big event with over 150 vehicles now entered  100 of these are over 50 years of age. The oldest is a 1908 De Dion Bouton that will be driven by Metung motoring enthusiast John Ward.

The other vehicle of great interest is a 1917 Detroit all electric car that will be driven into Dargo by Mike Shepard of Maffra.

This will be the first all electric car into Dargo.

Dr Hagauner owned the first vehicle into Dargo & his two granddaughters , one from Hamilton are & the other from Toorak will also be our guests

The Wellington Shire Mayor will flag the vehicles off from The Maffra Motor Museum at 9.00 am & he will also welcome everyone into Dargo at 1.00 pm.

I believe this is a great historical occasion for Gippsland & worthy of  a good story.
